Level 4
XLevel 1: Occasional
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.
Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert
Biking – 50-60 km (30-45 mi.) a day over both level and tougher, hillier terrain with multiple 100 km (62 mi.) options. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to push yourself.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over fairly hilly terrain offering lots of challenges. Routes are along high meadow paths and/or well-maintained cliffside or alpine trails, with a few steep ascents to make you feel invigorated.
In the Footsteps of Gods
“A dream place” – that’s how Steinbeck described Amalfi. And when you take in the Path of the Gods, the hotels (we stay at Le Sirenuse, just like he did), the food and the limoncello, you’ll understand why. Dream place? More like fantasy land – but who are we to correct a Nobel laureate?

Hotels

Capri Tiberio Palace, Capri
Tucked away down a boutique-lined alleyway just steps from the main piazza, the five-star Capri Tiberio Palace features friendly service, witty pop-art décor and spacious sea view rooms. View hotel website »

Palazzo Avino, Ravello
Palazzo Avino sits high above the Mediterranean in the medieval town of Ravello, overlooking the coast’s most picturesque villages. Recently restored, this stunning property is family-owned and run, and features a wonderful young chef who was recently awarded a Michelin star.

Le Sirenuse, Positano
Overlooking the sea on the cliffs of Positano, Le Sirenuse was rated the best hotel in the world in Condé Nast Traveler. B&R is the only active travel company invited to stay at this luxurious hotel thanks to our friendship with its charming owner, who can suggest many great walks in the area. Best of all, every room faces the sea offering views of the mythical islands of the Sirens. View hotel website »
Most memorable B&R moment... being told we would have sandwiches for lunch during our hike on the Path of the Gods and voila—out of nowhere a tiny little home with a sign that read "private party" appeared. We climbed up the steep stairs and a feast fit for kings and queens awaited us. This was our 11th B&R trip and we are always amazed at how you make magic happen. Truly a spectacular day!

Level 4
This walking trip covers a variety of terrain that at times is challenging. The landscape can be quite mountainous, so be prepared for plenty of ups and downs. Those with vertigo may find some of the walks uncomfortable. Daily distances average 5 to 8 km, with some options for less (or more) challenging hikes. A number of our walks are on narrow footpaths along mountainsides, while others follow well-surfaced roads. Hiking boots are required on some walks. Please note that van support is limited on this trip due to the inaccessibility of trails by vehicle.
What’s included? Everything you need. Plus everything you’d

Spend more time in Amalfi
Naples is a great city and definitely worth a couple days of exploring. It is one of the most populous cities in Italy, with bustling markets, great shopping, labyrinthine streets and a plethora of street vendors. There is an intense cultural tradition in the city owing to the array of people and nationalities that have crossed paths here and left their mark on the palaces, churches, and piazzas. We can also organize a stop in Pompei or Herculaneum and, of course, Rome is just a high-speed train ride away. For those looking for more time along the coast it is easy to extend your visit to include Positano, Amalfi, Ravello for more hiking, boating and delicious food.
