From your bike, you can see the peaks of the Pyrénées mountain range looming on the horizon. Volcanic flats stretch out ahead, leading to unbelievably pastoral fields. Along the way stand villages shaped by the hands of Roman architects, medieval craftsmen and surrealist artists. Dinner is tapas on a barbecue paired with a perfect vintage before settling into a unique auberge or a palatial hotel. This is no dream. Welcome to Catalonia, where the unexpected happens every day.

This quiet and serene hotel is located just outside of charming Figueres. Built in the 15thC, it is now a stylish, contemporary hotel with all modern amenities, yet it still retains its country charm thanks to the surrounding farmland. Mas Falgarona has been a labour of love for centuries with walls dating from the 15th, 17th and 21st century, the latter which transformed it to the hotel it is today. It is owned currently by a local family from Dali’s home town of Figueres. View hotel website »
Hotel Mas de Torrent, located in the heart of Empordà, is one of Catalonia’s most beautiful and luxurious hotels, and a very welcome sight at the end of a long day on the trail. It was once an old Catalan masia, a typical farmhouse, dating from the 18th century. Fully restored and the pride of the locals, it now boasts a swimming pool, tennis courts and massage service. This trip was outstanding - maybe the best European B&R trip I have ever taken! The food blew me away in that it was consistently good everywhere we went, and the wine was jaw dropping. I do not know why it has taken me so long to get to Spain, but shame on me! B&R has opened the door to a new country for me - and I will be back!
— Owen BillesThe riding is, for the most part, on gently rolling, quiet country and vineyard roads. The average daily ride is 46 km (29 mi.), with options for more or less cycling on some days and a (near) Century Ride loop option one day. The ride on Day 4 is challenging with options to make it moderate.
