Level 3
XLevel 1: Occasional
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.
Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert
Biking – 50-60 km (30-45 mi.) a day over both level and tougher, hillier terrain with multiple 100 km (62 mi.) options. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to push yourself.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over fairly hilly terrain offering lots of challenges. Routes are along high meadow paths and/or well-maintained cliffside or alpine trails, with a few steep ascents to make you feel invigorated.
From Porto into the Douro Valley
No need to choose between the wine regions of Vinho Verde and Douro—we’ll explore both! Drool over ancient bread ovens, terraced vineyards, stunning riverside hotels, and naturally, a glass or two of port wine. If all this pleasure wears you out, recover with a visit to the spa, a dip in the pool and a picnic aboard a private riverboat.

REQUEST A QUOTEDay by Day
Stretch your legs on a scenic walk through protected landscapes to reach Ponte de Lima. Arrive for lunch on market day in town and learn about the crisp white wine produced in the region over a tasting.
Explore the only National Park in Portugal dominated by dramatic granite rocks. Later, arrive at your celebrated hotel where an array of wellness treatments and an elaborate thermal spa greets you.
Consider rising early for an optional yoga class on the property before setting off on foot along the Camino De Santiago route, on the Portuguese side. Pause for a picnic full of regional delicacies and dramatic views.
Today's journey starts in Celeiros, travelling past the socalcos (terraced fields) and the Douro River. Over lunch, a private riverboat cruises upstream to a pristine swimming destination.
Revitalize with another yoga class before walking among the vines in the Baixo Corgo district, stopping for lunch at a winery along the way. Tonight we draw a triumphant end to our week in Northern Portugal.
After breakfast, your guides will bid you farewell before you head to the Porto airport for your outbound flight. Boa viagem!

I don’t know how B&R does it – the quality of their trips is so consistently high! Just when we think they couldn’t do anything as good as our last trip, they do! Another fantastic experience with B&R.

Level 3
The walking on this trip is mostly of moderate difficulty, with some easier days, particularly the first and some afternoons. If anything, it is the downhills that will be most challenging—for those with tender joints, the use of two walking sticks is highly recommend. Surfaces are mostly well-trod trails and paths, with a few sections of quiet paved roads or cobblestones.
What’s included? Everything you need. Plus everything you’d
want. Plus a few things you never knew you wanted ‘til you got them.
In a word: everything. In ninety words? Signature B&R guides; local experts; unique, unforgettable biking and walking routes; private tours; authentic local cuisine; lessons and demonstrations; local artisanal wines; wine tastings; all victuals and libations; all the endorphins you can handle; new insight; interesting, fun and like-minded travel companions; a feeling of total freedom. In short: an extraordinary, hassle-free journey of discovery.

Spend more time in Portugal
We absolutely recommend that you arrive in Porto at least a day before your trip begins, as Portugal’s second city has much to offer the visitor, first-timer or otherwise. At the end of your voyage, a short flight or long-ish train ride will get you to Lisbon, one of Europe’s most youthful and dynamic cities. Alternatively, rent a car and head north into Spanish Galicia and the pilgrimage city of Santiago di Compostela.
