- Difficulty Level
Level 2
XLevel 1: Occasional
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.
Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert
Biking – 50-60 km (30-45 mi.) a day over both level and tougher, hillier terrain with multiple 100 km (62 mi.) options. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to push yourself.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over fairly hilly terrain offering lots of challenges. Routes are along high meadow paths and/or well-maintained cliffside or alpine trails, with a few steep ascents to make you feel invigorated.

Enter Germany’s Black Forest, then pedal through the picturesque valley of the Wiese River. Stop for the perfect Swiss lunch, then admire the world-class art collection at the Beyerle Foundation. Dinner is on-board the SS. Antoinette this evening, paired with well-selected wines from the regions that lie ahead.
Spend the morning exploring the ship, taking in stunning views from all sides. Ride around the Kaiserstuhl, ‘the Kaiser’s Chair’, a renowned wine region at the foot of the Black Forest and stop for a private wine tasting. Enjoy a sunset dinner aboard as we set sail for Strasburg.
Set forth along pristine bike paths and dreamy landscapes on a ride ending in Strasbourg. Take a guided tour through Strasbourg's timbered houses, sedate canals, and Gothic landmarks—this is truly one of Europe's most underrated cities.
An overnight sail brings us to Mannheim, the gateway city to Germany’s economic and industrial prowess. Explore the lush valley of the Neckar River on a scenic route ending in the medieval jewel of Heidelberg—a must-see! Fabulous Mannheim dinner this evening.
Welcome to Rüdesheim, the village marking the unofficial entrance to the spectacular Middle Rhine. Set out on an easy traverse of the Rhine Gorge, where you'll be treated with a new castle coming into view every mile or so. Fusion dinner tonight in a restored 250-year-old grain mill.
Take in the iconic landscape of the UNESCO-listed Middle Rhine as you meander along its shores. Choose to detour into the Lahn Valley, a tributary river valley with stark beauty all its own! Learn about Koblenz’ dark past.
Wake up in Cologne and set out on a splendid urban ride, culminating at the splendid Kölner Dom cathedral. Return to the ship and relax on deck or arrange a well-deserved massage.
After a final breakfast on the water, we part company in Amsterdam this morning. We highly recommend a few more days here in the Netherlands’ bustling capital, which our travel team can help arrange for you.

I don’t know how B&R does it – the quality of their trips is so consistently high! Just when we think they couldn’t do anything as good as our last trip, they do! Another fantastic experience with B&R.

Level 2
Most of the riding on this trip is gentle to rolling on quiet roads, urban biking lanes, or other dedicated bicycle paths. There are a few hills to be biked, especially on Days 2 and 6. There are numerous long options for eager riders. Road surfaces are either paved or consist of hard-packed dirt and gravel. B&R therefore recommends the use of hybrid bicycles for casual riders on this trip. Daily elevation gains range between 50m (165feet) and 450 m (1500 feet) .
What’s included? Everything you need. Plus everything you’d
