- Difficulty Level
Level 3
XLevel 1: Occasional
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.
Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert
Biking – 50-60 km (30-45 mi.) a day over both level and tougher, hillier terrain with multiple 100 km (62 mi.) options. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to push yourself.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over fairly hilly terrain offering lots of challenges. Routes are along high meadow paths and/or well-maintained cliffside or alpine trails, with a few steep ascents to make you feel invigorated.

REQUEST A QUOTEDay by Day
Discover the Anapo Valley and the Necropolis of Pantalica with an archaeologist. Then, we'll kick off our adventures in Noto with a sunset aperitivo before dinner in town at our favourite restaurant.
Today we'll journey south for a walk through the Vendicari Nature Reserve, a wildlife oasis with some of the country's best beaches. This evening, a local expert will guide us though Noto and its Baroque wonders.
Our friend Concetto will show us around his farm and almond orchards where he cultivates the Romana almond. After a farm-fresh lunch, we'll travel to the Donna Carmela to spend some free time amid its lush grounds.
We'll journey through vineyards and lunch with a local winemaking family in their palmenti. After lunch, we’ll walk into the vineyard to our Etnean home for an optional spa treatment before this evening's event.
As we make our way up Mount Etna, Sicily's behemoth volcano, we'll take in the lunar landscapes of craters and black lava. Tonight, we'll toast to a fabulous Sicilian journey in the hotel’s excellent restaurant.
After a last breakfast together, our guide will arrange a drop off at either the historic centre of Taormina or at Catania airport.

Hotels

Hotel Gagliardi, Noto
This intimate boutique hotel was once a 19thC noble palace. Fittingly, the interiors are sprinkled with antique furnishings and the rooftop terrace boasts sprawling views of the historic centre of Noto. View hotel website »

Donna Carmela, Carruba di Riposto
Nestled in a large plant nursery between the sea and the foot of Mount Etna, between Catania and Taormina, Donna Carmela is an elegant resort. Generous hospitality, creative décor and quality materials make the 18-room boutique hotel come alive. Its imminently tasteful contemporary aesthetic with many elegant touches (fresh roses here, bold art there, beautiful breezy views throughout) make it a one-of-a-kind experience in Sicilian hospitality. Villa Neri, Linguaglossa
Villa Neri is a stunning five-star hotel tucked into the lower slopes of Etna, amid pristine natural surroundings. The décor is sleek and modern, while the spa offers excellent wellness options to unwind after a volcanic hike. View hotel website »
I don’t know how B&R does it – the quality of their trips is so consistently high! Just when we think they couldn’t do anything as good as our last trip, they do! Another fantastic experience with B&R.
— Carolyn Zaslaw
Level 3
Our walking is somewhat hilly with a few steep sections, and a few flat ones. For the most part, we stay on the dirt paths that run through the vineyards, countryside and along the coast, but we occasionally take quiet asphalt roads. The walking on Etna is exposed with some loose gravel. The daily distances range from 7 to 13.5 km (4.3 to 8.3 mi.) with van support or shorter options for when you’re ready to relax back at the hotel.
What’s included? Everything you need. Plus everything you’d
want. Plus a few things you never knew you wanted ‘til you got them.
