XLevel 1: Occasional
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.
Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert
Biking – 50-60 km (30-45 mi.) a day over both level and tougher, hillier terrain with multiple 100 km (62 mi.) options. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to push yourself.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over fairly hilly terrain offering lots of challenges. Routes are along high meadow paths and/or well-maintained cliffside or alpine trails, with a few steep ascents to make you feel invigorated.

Set out from Prague—the boho-chic European capital and City of Spires, for six days of riverside and forest biking towards the pearl of the eastern Alps, Salzburg—the city of Mozart and the Sound of Music! Along the way, experience magical crumbling castles, romantic country palaces, and the time-warped UNESCO village of Cesky Krumlov. Then, encounter the equally enchanting, more secretive Bavarian countryside, with charming riverside villages, quiet lakes and great expanses of green forest (and, of course, Schnitzel, Pilsner and Apfelstrudel to keep the engines firing). The journey really is all part of the fun on this Central European adventure!

Cycle along the Vltava river through quiet medieval villages to the magnificent Karlštejn Castle. Pause along the way to refresh with a Czech beer and enjoy a terrace lunch with a superb view.
Begin your day with a visit to Hluboka castle. Choose your route to Cesky Krumlov, either via České Budějovice (aka the birthplace of Budweiser!) or the UNESCO heritage town of Holašovice.
Take your pick of activity today, opting for either a lovely ride to Lipno Lake, a hike to the top of Mount Klet, or raft the Vltava River. Tonight, join your local guide for an after-hours tour of the Krumlov castle.
Ride through the Šumava National Park and cross the former Iron Curtain to reach Passau on the banks of the Danube. Meet up with a local friend tonight for an introduction to the City of Three Rivers.
Continue in the direction of Salzburg along a gentle route through the Inn River valley. In Geinberg, spend the afternoon making the most of your hotel’s luxurious spa facilities.
Cycle through the impossibly green valleys that surround the Salzach River all the way to Salzburg. Dinner tonight is in one of the city’s finest restaurants, Brunnauer.
After breakfast, we say Auf Wiedersehen and leave you to explore Salzburg further on your own.
